Here are links to Paradise-related research and other interesting sites
in the Web.
DIS and Other Distributed Simulation Research
- NRL NetLab Home Page Navy
Research Lab's Netlab, and their ADS
Page, including links to many other projects. This may be the most
complete set of web links that refers to DIS work.
- The Modeling
& Simulation Web Page.
- University of Central Florida's Institute for Simulation and Training
Visual Systems Lab, IST
home page, with links to other web resources related to DIS.
- The US Army's STRICOM web site.
STRICOM is the army's Simulation, Training, and Instrumentation Commadn.
The site includes long range plans for DIS in the military and links to
other military-focused DIS work.
- The congressional Office of Technology Assessment (OTA) has prepared
a background paper that describes uses of synthetic-environment technologies
and virtual reality in simulating combat. It traces technology development
from the 1929 Link Trainer through the SAGE air defense system, the first
head-mounted display, and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency's
SIMNET simulator networking project. The text of the background paper is
now available by anonymous ftp from OTA's
- Carnegie Mellon's Netrek
- UCL's site for Multicast
Transport Protocol papers, etc.
- Mbone Mail Archives.
- The Jupiter system here at PARC makes routine use of IP multicast for
live video and for live and recorded audio; we also anticipate using it
for `telepointer' data (other users' mouse motions). The only existing
about Jupiter is available in .ps format by FTP form PARC.
- 3dSite. Very popular
website (100,000 hits per week) which has pointesr to lots of 3D stuff.
Check out the publications section.
- China Lake 3D Repository,
CA ftp site used to be maintained by the Navy, now maintained by Viewpoint.
Holds 3D models in many formats, descriptions of formats, utiiities for
viewing them, textures, and other 3D model-related goodies.
- SGI's OpenGL WWW
- RenderWare from Criterion
Software. Criterion is a subsidiary of Canon. Information on RenderWare
and demos from Criterion Software are available by http and by ftp.
- List of 3D Graphics
Engines, both public domain and free, from Karsetn Isakovic, TU-Berlin.
Modeling Environmental Effects in DIS
- Work at NRL
- Environmental Effects for DIS at NRL. html
- An Object-oriented Technology for Integrating Environmental Effects
and Distributed Simulations, by Frederick Wieland, Harry Heckathorn,
- 1-degree digital
elevations models and other cartographics data are available by ftp
from the USGS. This information could
be useful to anyone trying to build a terrain simulation for DIS.
page on PRESENCE includes contents of past, present, and future issues,
along with calls for papers.
